Love this piece! I've been troubled by my continuing Spotify enrollment for all the reasons you name and this week I finally took the plunge. Thanks for the encouragement and your clearheaded but still passionate stance that gave me the push I needed.
Thanks, Rachel! I'm so glad to hear my post gave you the push you needed. Since leaving, I feel freer, and find that I've been listening to more music :)
I'm relieved to have done it though I'm not quite there yet in terms of the interface! But that's okay, there's time. It still feels like the right thing.
Fantastic piece! I switched away from Spotify two years ago and never looked back. Though I still miss their UI, their business practices were just icky and have only gotten worse.
Thank you, P.C.! I agree, I also enjoyed their UI, and will surely miss it. But it's worth cutting out the ickiness! Do you have a new platform of choice that you'd recommend?
I don’t know that I would recommend it, but I’ve been using Apple Music, which feels like the lesser of two evils. But I am more and more intrigued by people building up their CD and record libraries!
I'm feel the same on both counts! I've turned to Apple Music too as the "next best thing"--especially when listening while out and about--and otherwise love Bandcamp for discovering local musicians and building my digital collection.
Really strong piece, Noah. It's very frustrating to have to be suspicious all the time and to feel ripped off. A waste of energy. I'm glad you have made a decision to take your value back.
Thank you, Alice! It truly was a waste of energy. The decision has been tough, and certainly full of compromises, but I feel empowered and hopeful having that energy and value back.
